Description

As the city of Edo sinks into darkness, a man comes out of the attic of a house. It is the famous Jirokichi, nicknamed Nezumikozo/the Rat, a virtuous bandit who robs the rich to distribute them to the poor. Orin, a merchant, leads a difficult life with her baby. Taking advantage of this poor woman's plight, some yakuza try to reveal the true identity of Nezumikozo/the Rat.

About The Director

Rintaro played a central role in the making of Astro Boy (1963), Japan's first animated television film, and

was the director of Jungle Emperor (1965), Japan's first color animated TV series.

He made an important contribution to the development Japanese animation culture. He also directed the films Galaxy Express 999 (1979) and Metropolis (2001), which enjoyed great success both in Japan and abroad.

In recent years, he has deepened his knowledge of 3D animation, notably by producing 3D animated films,

including Yona Yona Penguin (2009).
